Manchester Climate March and Neo-Labour Conference. Livestreams from TristanWoodwards and Timbernot

Original Invite:
On 21st September, on the eve of a historic UN summit on climate change in New York, people will take to the streets in their hundreds and thousands, in unprecedented mobilisations in many of the World’s largest cities. They will be calling on the World’s most powerful political leaders to take urgent action on climate change. Amongst those cities will be Manchester. Come and join us.

Together, we will be demanding a world we know is within our reach: a world with an economy that works for people and the planet. A world safe from the ravages of climate change. A world with good jobs, clean air, and healthy communities for everyone.

There is only one ingredient required to change everything and make a difference: we need everyone to come along.

Join us on September 21st, 11.00am Piccadilly Gardens

As the Labour Party are also coming to Manchester on the same day for their last Party Conference before the general election next May (when they could get back into power) we will also be linking up with, what the organisers hope, will be a massive lobby of the Conference on an anti-fracking and action on climate change theme.

The lobby is calling on Labour’s shadow cabinet, Labour MPs and the party as a whole:

To actively oppose the passage of the Infrastructure Bill (a.k.a. the “Fracking under our Homes Bill”)

To give a Manifesto commitment to ban fracking for shale gas, coal bed methane extraction & underground coal gasification everywhere.

To give a Manifesto commitment that if Labour is elected, they will implement the proposals of the One Million Climate Jobs report. These proposals would create a million new jobs within 12 months in the development of alternative low carbon renewable energy production, greater energy efficiency, reduced energy usage, and other measures which will drastically reduce our greenhouse gas emissions over the next 20 years. Also, which would help us to achieve 100% self-sufficiency in energy as a country over the same period.

The organisers believe that all these things are the right kind of thing for any Government to be doing, which says it is serious about addressing the growing threat of irreversible and globally catastrophic climate change, as well as reducing unemployment, addressing fuel poverty and tackling our long term energy requirements as a country without destroying our environment in the process.

They are also completely in line with the kind of action being demanded by People’s Climate marchers globally on the 21st September.

PLEASE SUPPORT OUR CALL!

Over 1,200 took part in the central Manchester demonstration in March in support of the fight at Barton Moss and against fracking everywhere.

Let’s top that on Sunday 21st September with an even bigger People’s Climate March and Lobby of Labour’s conference.
