16 years of Guantánamo Bay: US Embassy Vigil

Hosted by London Guantánamo Campaign

The London Guantánamo Campaign invites you to a
CANDLELIGHT VIGIL to mark 16 years of Guantánamo Bay
at 6-8pm on Thursday 11 January 2018 outside the US Embassy, Grosvenor Square, London W1A (nearest underground: Bond Street/Marble)

On 11 January 2018, the prison camp at Guantánamo Bay turns 16. 41 prisoners remain, the majority of whom are held indefinitely without charge or trial.

Only one of the remaining prisoners was captured by the US military: the others were bought for a bounty, often of $5000, and are among those who suffered the most sustained and brutal forms of torture at Guantánamo and prior to arriving there, in the CIA’s secret prisons all over the world.

More prisoners have died at Guantánamo than have been convicted. No one has been released by President Trump.

Join us as we stand in solidarity with and remember the remaining prisoners. Bring candles and banners.

This demonstration outside the US Embassy in Grosvenor Square will also be the last anniversary to be marked at this historic site and one of our last protests there as the US Embassy will be moving to Nine Elms in 2018. Please join us on this historic occasion and demand that Donald Trump closes Guantánamo.
