Emergency Vigil: No More Deaths – End Detention
For the second time this month, there has been a death in a UK immigration detention centre.
Yesterday it was confirmed by the Home Office that a man with Chinese nationality died at Dungavel IRC in South Lanarkshire, Scotland: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/
Earlier this month a Polish man took his own life at Harmondsworth near Heathrow: https://
Detention has always been violent and these two awful pieces of news come at the end of a long list of deaths caused by immigration imprisonment. There is information about some of the other people who have died in immigration detention since 1989 on the IRR website here: http://www.irr.org.uk/
Our thoughts are with friends and family, and with everyone incarcerated in immigration detention. We are calling on supporters to gather at the Home Office for a demonstration and vigil, to mark the deaths of these men and to say not one more.
