Brixton, Lambeth. Students marching to lobby at town hall tomorrow
Date(s) - 20/11/2013
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Students will start assembling at 5pm at Rush Common (across the road from Brixton College on Brixton Hill) for tomorrows lobby of the town hall. Come early to support them if you can, as they march around Brixton demanding to keep our college in Brixton and stop the developers getting their hands on it!!
The lobby outside the Town Hall will start from 6pm and then our housing deputation to the full council meeting will be heard at 7pm – the deputation will include residents from tenants council, short-life co-ops, cressingham gardens and Unite Community and they will be demanding a no eviction pledge from the Council for debts from bedroom tax or benefit cuts, and an end to the sale of council property.
We want to fill the public gallery with supporters so spread the word!
Tomorrow there’s a day of action by students around the UK about student debt:
The UK government wants to privatise the Student Loans Company, which has adminstered all student debts for higher education since loans were brought in in the 1990s. For now, it has a limit on the level of interest that can be charged on the loans of the rate of inflation. As part of the privatisation, it is thought they will remove this limit.
If you have a moment to send or tweet a message of solidarity, it might be good for them to feel part of pan-European debt resistance!
The hashtag is #StopTheSellOff.
