Date(s) - 08/07/2013
7:30 pm - 9:45 pm
Recent events bring economic and political struggles of migrant communities into the spotlight again. North London will present two short films on that subject produced by the Institute of Race Relations, followed by a discussion.
A Town under Siege (dir Colin Prescod, 1982, 38min) looks at how the Asian community in Southall organised against racist attacks from 1976 until 1981.
A Common History (dir Colin Prescod, 1982, 38min) looks at a dispute at Imperial Typewriters in Leicester, 1976 where Black workers fought discrimination from the bosses but also their white workmates.
