Silent Vigil for Peace, Justice & Freedom
Date(s) - 31/08/2013
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
(Following the National Demonstration by the Stop the War Coalition against an attack on Syria)On Saturday 31st August, we the undersigned, will be holding a silent vigil for peace, justice and freedom for Syria, the UK and all the whole world on Parliament Square, Westminster, London from 6 pm until 8pm.
We oppose the UK government’s proposed military assault on Syria. We recognise that such an action will only create more chaos, misery and destruction and endanger many more lives as well as making the terrible situation in Syria even worse for people there.
We stand shoulder to shoulder with the Syrian people who are suffering in the horrific conditions of a ghastly civil war. We oppose the brutal behaviour of the Syrian government; it’s ongoing vicious and destructive activities which have already resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of men, women and children.
We also oppose so much of what the British government does in both foreign and domestic ways. Whether it be in its military support for oppressive regimes abroad (which results in huge loss of life and misery) or the cuts to vital public services and the violent, oppressive policies which people in the UK suffer under everyday. We seek an end to both the Syrian government and British government in their present forms. Like so many of the people in Syria, we too wish for a system which is based on equality, freedom and justice for all.
We are guided in our action by the intention of unconditional love for all life. Although we are committed to our desired goals, we recognise that we cannot achieve peace, freedom and justice by ‘drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred’.
If you share the intention of this vigil, come and join us in silence from 6pm until 8pm on Parliament Square, Westminster. All you need to bring is yourself.
If you cannot make it, you can add your support for our call for global peace, justice and freedom by adding your name to this statement.
