On Wednesday, July 17, 2013 is the International Justice Day. To commemorate this day the PHILIPPINE JURY CAMPAIGN will stage a prayer rally outside the embassy for and on behalf of all the people who suffered injustices throughout the world particularly those people who suffered and still suffering injustices in the Philippines.

Moreover we will be highlighting the plight and the release of the Abadilla 5 who have been imprisoned for the past 17 years. These five people had been tortured by the authorities/police into confessing on June 13, 1996 the murder of retired Lt. Col. Ronaldo Abadilla, feared military intelligence officers during the Marcos dictatorship. The killing of Lt. Col. Abadilla was claimed by the ABB (Alex Boncayao Brigade)

On November 2011, these “Fall Guys” namely Lenido Lumanog, Joel de Jesus, Rameses de Jesus, Cesar Fortuna and Agusto Santos have received recommendations for commutation of their sentences of 15 years from the Department of Justice’s Board of Pardons and Parole, whilst the DOJ Secretary De Lima has recommended to grant an executive clemency to the Abadilla 5. Public Attorney’s Office chief Persida Acosta, also asked the President to pardon Lumanog who presently confined at the National Kidney Transplant Institute for Acute and Chronic Rejection, for humanitarian considerations.

DOJ Secretary De Lima stated that there was “reasonable doubt” on the conviction of the Abadilla 5. She also said that 5 justices dissented in the Supreme Court decision that upheld the conviction of the Abadilla 5. And that when she looked into the case some years back when she was chair of the Commission on Human Rights, questions about the credibility of the witness against the five nagged at her.

Henceforth our vigil rally reinforces and supports the above government recommendations (DOJ and Board of Pardons and Parole) to our President PNOY for his executive clemency for the release of the Abadilla 5, who during the past 17 years have been protesting for their innocence.

We are inviting all Pilipino organisations, different religious groups, OFWs, other nationalities and students to join us on Wednesday, July 17, 2013.

We will be collecting signatures in support to the Executive Clemency from 10:00 am onwards outside the Embassy premises. The vigil prayer will start from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. We also intend to put up small banners and posters. So please bring banners too if you wish.

LETS ALL MAKE DIFFERENCE.
PLEASE COME ALONG AND SUPPORT THIS RALLY.
BE THE CHANGE!
