Crossroads Women's Centre

As the Big Six energy companies push up our fuel bills, their profits are soaring to record levels.

Meanwhile, the government keeps cutting and negligent landlords make matters worse.

We’re getting ripped-off and left to freeze. At the same time, the energy companies and the government are driving climate change, meaning increased food prices and disastrous weather.

It doesn’t have to be this way. It’s time to fight back.

Fuel Poverty Action are getting ready for a winter of resistance. The struggle against fuel poverty connects to struggles around austerity, economic justice, environmental destruction, poor housing, disabled peoples’ rights and pensioners’ rights. If we want to win warm homes and affordable, clean energy for all, we need to work together to take on the profiteering energy companies and the ConDem government in their pockets.

This public meeting will be a chance for different groups working on issues connecting to fuel poverty to get together, hear about each others’ work and plan how we can take action together to tackle fuel poverty in the winter to come.

The meeting will feature Ken Savage of the Greater London Pensioners’ Association on his experience of organising rent strikes in Kentish Town in the 1960s and the lessons we can learn, as well as remarkable film footage from those strikes. Also, hear from speakers from Disabled People Against Cuts and Single Mothers’ Self-Defence.

Practical information on your rights and on reducing your bills will be available.

This is a free and open event. All are very welcome.
