ASIAN SWEATSHOPS – WORKERS’ BLOOD MULTINATIONALS’ PROFITS
A community group is holding a public meeting this week to discuss the plight of sweatshop workers across the world who make clothing for UK stores.
Waltham Forest Left Unity wants to remind people that on April 24 over 1,100 people were killed in a building collapse in Bangladesh, which housed factories for major brands in the UK like Benetton, Primark and Matalan.
Speakers including Ashok Kumar, the Asia coordinator for Adidas Workers Unite union, will talk about how the sweatshop economy works and a new national campaign to address the problem called Love Fashion Hate Sweatshops.
The meeting will be held at the Quaker Meeting House in Jewel Road, Walthamstow from 8-10pm on Thursday.
