A lot of people are saying that the V mask has come to represent the "Occupy Movement" as a stand alone ideology, but alas no. The V mask has been used by many groups, and will continue to represent an Internet subgroup known as "Anonymous". These people used the Fawkes face to represent their ideals, long before the Occupy Movement existed, when they were protesting Scientology, Internet Censorship, defending Wikileaks, promoting Revolution in Arab countries and whatever other causes they felt like throwing their incredible weight behind! Allying with such a powerful sub-culture, is obviously a bold move, but an incredibly rewarding one. The Occupy movement has benefited from this alliance and support, and will continue to do so until it achieves it's objectives (hopefully sooner rather than later!). The confusion over the origins of the symbolism is mainly due to the mainstream media sources not wanting to talk about "Anonymous", mainly due to a severe lack of knowledge keeping them from clarification.

I am concerned however that it only takes a small subset of Anonymous to move in a direction, that you can not support, using your newest symbol as their age old firebrand! If you accept the branding of Anonymous, then you also have to accept being tarred with the same brush by the news media! You don't want to know what's in that tar...

Hey Occupylsx,
Interesting Post, Visitors to Whitby undoubtedly enjoy the fine views, the great food, the Gothic connection and the historic Yards that seem hidden around every corner of this ancient town. However, I wonder if tourists even suspect that down one of these Yards, several centuries ago, one man was learning skills that would eventually change the map of the world...
Thx.
