Last week, we met up with a number of groups to discuss visions, tactics and strategies for the coming year.

We came together to support and help organise an action by DPAC, planned for late spring/early summer, in memory of the 10600 people who died within weeks of receiving Work Capability Assessments in one year alone. As several disabled activists explained during the general assembly, these are government figures and likely an underestimate.

During this assembly, we also received feedback from our delegate to the UN reporting back from the UN Special Rapporteur’s preliminary findings. Spycops, kettling and categorising protest as ‘domestic extremism’, all came under heavy criticism.

We joined Idle No More at the TINAG festival and marched with Lewisham against the cuts.

The Battersea adventure playground was demolished, with Wandsworth council continuing its smear campaign against the occupiers to the bitter end. You can read our full rebuttal here with video evidence to match. After 48 days of protesting, the last activist from Combe Haven was removed and the felling of trees began. The campaign continues.

Good news abroad, as direct action leads to success in Bangladesh, and the EU green-lights a Financial Transaction Tax.

Back home, Barclays senior staff were officially linked to the LIBOR scandal. The bank is facing further trouble over allegations of colluding with the Financial Services Authority to avoid compensating thousands of customers who were mis-sold risky investments.
