North London residents and campaigners, supporters of the Occupy movement and UK Uncut will transform a tax-dodging Starbucks’ store into a library and a creche!
GET THERE EARLY because we’ll be starting at MIDDAY ON THE DOT. Bring your own coffee. Plus anything else to complete the transformation. Books, magazines, newspapers, games, face paints, felt tips and cake!
Public services are being destroyed by the government’s cuts. While Starbucks has paid NO TAX in the UK for the past three years.

A local Starbucks’ store in North London will be transformed into a library and crèche [1]. Campaigners estimate that 121 libraries, double Mr Vaizey’s estimate of sixty, were lost in the financial year 2011/12 [2]. A direct action involving reclaiming Friern Barnet library, that was closed by Barnet Council on 5th April 2012, has highlighted the growing support for this precious public service [3]. The government are also cutting 25% of funding for Sure Start services. [sources?] With already 100 Sure Start centres closed since 2010, cuts to benefits and affordable childcare will force thousands of women out of work to look after their children. So don’t forget to bring the kids!

THE CUTS ARE NOT NECESSARY
The government [local and national] are making a political choice to slash public services and sell what’s left to private companies (Capita and BT), rather than clamp down on tax avoidance by companies like Starbucks, Google and Vodafone. [4][5]
SAVE OUR LIBRARIES
Libraries are a free community space – otherwise rare on the High Street. This is especially the case in small communities where, unfortunately, they are currently most under threat of closure. East Barnet Cllr Robert Rams publicly stated in 2010 that he would like people to order books online and collect them from Tescos or read them in Starbucks.
It’s time to take action and show that there are alternatives to the cuts.
