Fighting Austerity: Oppose Racist Scapegoating – Livestream
Challenging UKIPs racism: Austerity and cuts & the myths about Immigration
Challenging the racist lies of UKIP: Fight Austerity- Oppose racist scapegoating :
educational meeting with economist Michael Burke and Lee Jasper came down to speak on behalf of BARAC(Zita Holbourne – had to cancel due to the flu).
This was jointly organised by SELPA (South East London People’s Assembly) and LARAG (Lewisham Anti-Racist Action Group).
In the two hour meeting, we learned the history of racism from the expulsion of the Jews in 1287 and in 1596, Queen Elizabeth issued an “open letter” to the Lord Mayor of London, announcing that “there are of late divers blackmoores brought into this realme, of which kinde of people there are allready here to manie,” and ordering that they be deported from the country.
One of the main points from Michael Burke is that even though the UKIP supporters may claim to desire many things seen as socialist ideology i.e. the NHS, re-nationalisation of the railways and Utilities, they are mainly obsessed with their racist scapegoating.
Please watch and enjoy. The main contributions run for 40 minutes, the rest are questions and contributions from the audience.
