There is a shocking and naive assumption that business people know how to govern nations as they do in their companies. Thus we get Trump and the Tories. The problem about this stupidity is that one has to ignore the fact the companies have one purpose – to turn as big a profit as possible. Companies hate taxes and regulations and anything which interferes with making as much money as possible. Workers’ rights? A nuisance! Environmental protection? Interference. Morality or ethics? Can’t be bothered. Equal opportunities? Only if forced into it. Truth and transparency? Negotiable! So otherwise intelligent voters seek comfort in the arms of those who will oppress their neighbours; they ally themselves and identify with those who will profit from their naive trust. They demonise any politician who dares to challenge the wisdom and rights of wealth. An expensive suit and a posh accent are appropriate credentials for governing, according to our brain-washed friends! And do not challenge their assumptions – as they have long ago filtered out reality and humanity. JB
