DEMONSTRATION TO SAVE FRIERN BARNET LIBRARY!!
17 DECEMBER: Meet at 9:30am
In September residents of Barnet in North London took action against the local council and occupied their local library which had been closed down as a consequence of the government’s austerity measures despite overwhelming local opposition.
The council is now trying to evict the occupiers and hand over the premises to a private company. Since the library was occupied in September, it has been stocked with over eight thousand donated books. The library regularly hosts events, has attracted the attention of local, national and even international media, and has become a vibrant centre of the community.
The people of Barnet do not want charity or Cameron’s Big Society. They want what they paid for and is theirs. A fully funded and operational library. Come to Barnet and show Barnet Council that libraries matter more than bankers’ bonuses and that communities matter more than profits for big business.
